Backlog of Untested Rape Kits Enable Repeat Offenders to Escape Justice

“A government report released Tuesday has confirmed facts uncovered in a CBS News investigation,” report chief investigative correspondent 
Armen Keteyian and investigative producer
Laura Strickler.

“Essential DNA evidence in rape cases is often never sent to crime labs for testing — nearly 20 percent of all unsolved rapes in America committed between 2003 and 2007.”

“But what the investigation also found is that even when police do send rape kits to crime labs, they can go untested for months — even years — while rapists go free.”  Continue reading…
